Several months ago, I started a new weekly theme: Sundays Are For Sebastian. Sebastian is my five-year old and he says some of the funniest things–we have no idea where he gets his material since his mother and I are rather boring, serious people.
I told the boys the other day that they had to help me make breakfast. Nathan reluctantly acquiesced. Sebastian walked straight up to me and…
…extended his middle finger, flipping me off.
I tried not to be shocked.
I tried to remain calm.
I tried to play dumb:
Me: “What? What’s that?”
Sebastian: “I can’t help–look, my band-aid came off.”
The rest of the story:
After Sebastian skipped off, Nathan (10 years old) comes up to me and says in a hushed voice:
“Do you know what that means when somebody holds up their middle finger like that?”
Me: “Uh, yeah.”
Nathan: “OK, just checking….”
Nathan, very proud of the free Mr. Peabody glasses and bow tie he received at school.

I love that story and the age of your son. I remember my kids being completely comfortable in their skin without fear of what others thought. Middle school changed that for a while…

Yes, the older is now in 5th grade and starting to lose some innocence, but his younger brother keeps him grounded!

…goblin is for the public, I actually call them “zucchini” or “ranocchi” (frogs) and even “salami”. So maybe, after all Knuckleheads is not that bad… 🙂
