Happy Fourth of July! With Some Reminders

Happy Fourth of July to everyone from the birthplace of the nation, Philadelphia!

I thought I would use today’s post for a few reminders:

1. Don’t forget to VOTE in this month’s Monthly Wine Writing Challenge! The poll stays open until Monday.wine-stain1-3

2. The Tour de France starts tomorrow! If you want in on my Tour Fantasy League, let me know soon!

From USA Today. Unfortunately, most Tour photos with an American flag in it also contain a disgraced cyclist....

3. I mentioned a while back that I would be heading to France this September to lead a bike trip and asked you which I should do: Loire Valley or Burgundy. Well, I am going to do both (along with a week in Belgium). It is not too late to join me! Here is the company:

Blue Marble Travel

I am starting to get some winery visits organized!

About the drunken cyclist

I have been an occasional cycling tour guide in Europe for the past 20 years, visiting most of the wine regions of France. Through this "job" I developed a love for wine and the stories that often accompany the pulling of a cork. I live in Houston with my lovely wife and two wonderful sons.

  1. Tour Fantasy League…I can’t believe that’s even a thing (which probably shows you just how out of touch I am with the world of biking)

A biking wine trip sounds fabulous. One of these years, I’ll join you. I may be 85, but that’s OK, right?

  3. Vive le Tour!! You’re killing me with the “both” thing . . . I WISH I could go!! Dang kids, school, soccer, marching band, etc. One of these times. BTW, my husband got me clipless pedals/shoes for the tandem. Haven’t tried them out yet, but for sure it’ll be a Kodak moment. Cheers & Happy 4th!

  4. Happy Independence Day! Thank you for the reminder re: Tour de France. I taught indoor cycling classes for many years. During the Tour each year I would simulate a leg of the tour each week in my hour long class. It was awesome! I loved having the participants leave soaking wet and practically unable to walk. We focused a lot on the hill climbs. Brings back great memories. I have never been much of an outdoor cycling but indoor it is hands down my favorite cardio! Your tour sounds great. Cheers
