This past week, I had the brilliant idea to try to saber a bottle of sparkling wine with something other than a saber. The video of the attempt is below. Perhaps the most amazing thing about the entire thing was that my wife, who filmed the “event” did not emit any discernible sounds during the process. Although just past halfway through I could hear her thinking “You’re an idiot.”
haha nice!

Hahaha! I think I started crying from laughing so much. I particularly like how your “one last attempt” was just like twenty really fast successive attempts.

I never really defined “attempt”.

Very brave and inventive. If this goes viral, it could be like the ice bucket phenomenon. You’ll have people trying everything. A putter? A garden trowel?

I was actually thinking a one iron–since they are not really good for anything else….

Have you heard the joke “In the event of a lightning storm on the golf course what club should you hold? A one iron because even God can’t hit a one iron!” Btw, this post was my husband’s introduction to wine sabering. Cheers!

Awesome! I’m amazed at how quiet the camera woman remained. I would have had to laugh.

I am actually surprised she did not call the whole thing off and file for divorce….

You crack me up, you have the patience of a saint and were mighty determined to make it work. Your wife/camerawoman was very quiet indeed.

Luv this. I think the cork decided to pop off because it was tired of getting rubbed. But hey, the new specs look good!

I agree. I got a bit of “When is all this going to end?” from the bottle and that very well could have played a role!

Question: Most of the sparklers I have around here have plastic stoppers. Think I could manage to saber one of those? There’s a machete in my living room who’s dying to have a go…

If they have plastic stoppers, they were likely made by another method than the “Traditional Method” (i.e., the “Champagne Method”) and will likely not have enough pressure in the bottle to saber….

Bravo, and if you ever get tired of using a sabre, you have a great potential for writing captions. They are almost as good as Sebastian’s remarks.

Follow through, it’s all about the follow through. I can see the start of a new challenge: the “Monthly Goofy Sabering Video Challenge” #MGSV 1? It was just a saber, but my wife Julie popped a bottle of Marc Hebrart Blanc de Blanc last night for her birthday. First try!

I loved the subtitles – I was smiling throughout at your persistence! Well done for getting there in the end 🙂

I think the bottle actually committed suicide in the end–it had been tortured enough.
