I have been posting Sundays Are For Sebastian for over two years now, starting when he was four years old (he just turned seven last month). His brother, Nathan, was ten at the time and when he found out about the posts featuring his brother, he was initially a bit hurt that he was not receiving equal time. I explained to him that he also uttered equally hilarious statements when he was that age, but I erred in not writing them down.
I added that by ten years old (and likely much earlier), he had become socialized and had subconsciously learned (or lost) the innocence that was driving his brother’s “moments.”
It seemed as though he understood my first point and maybe even the second (emphasis on maybe).
I can assure you that Nathan is an incredible kid: extremely bright and fun-loving. I can only hope that Sebastian sees him as a role model.
Yesterday, Nathan was trying to move up a belt in Tae Kwon Do (the Korean martial art), and to do so, he needed to break his first board, which caused him a great deal of anxiety.
But he handled it like a boss:

Oh, MY GOD! This was too awesome! I was sitting at the edge of my chair, hyperventilating… great job, Nathan!!!!!

Go Nathan-nice side kick! I always like it when he makes an appearance in SAFS. My kids who took TKD also had to break a board to move to the next belt- each board breaking was done with a different move- side kick, elbow strike, back kick, etc.

One son got to red, and daughter and youngest got blue with a stripe and my oldest never did TKD

The job I would never want to have is “board holder”. My son has his ABB (all but black) — he worked his way up through all of the red belts. And with each of those belts, the board breaking becomes more impressive. We kept all of his broken boards over the years . . . had ourselves a doozie of a bonfire after he “retired”. Congrats to Nathan — keep it up!! 😃

Yeah, no kidding! Sebastian also was there this weekend, but it did not go well. On his second attempt he drilled the holder’s fingers. Ouch!

Excellent job by Sebastian. Perhaps you can post a book report or essay by Nathan to increase his cyber-time? Or does he like a different sport?

Congratulations to your son! Great job!
I remember my younger daughter breaking a board when she was just a bit older than your son. My girls are three years apart like your sons, and they are extremely close.

Surprisingly, so are the boys. They are 5 1/2 years apart, but thick as thieves (most of the time). My brother is three years older and we despised each other growing up (but get along famously now).

Way to go Nathan! I am convinced the discipline in those courses really help with the discipline that is needed in not only school, but home-life. I know you are very proud of Nathan, he killed it! My daughter got all the way to Purple II! I will never forget the day she broke her first board. I was hoping she’d go all the way through brown and black, but she then made the high school dance team, no time for anything else… I hope he continues with this.

We will see how long it lasts with these two–they are both into it now, but with puberty around the corner…. I, too, hope they both get to black (but never practice on me!).
