Sundays Are For Sebastian—#151

Sebastian is my seven-year old and he says some of the funniest things–we have no idea where he gets his material since his mother and I are rather boring, serious people.

Recently, Sebastian has become somewhat fixated on credit cards. We bought him a wallet and he is always looking to add more cards to it. This past week, in preparation for our move to Texas, we were going to take old financial documents to Staples for shredding.

The two boys, however, offered to do it for half of what Staples was going to charge.

Among the documents, there were a few expired credit cards, which Sebastian asked if he could add to his wallet collection. My ever paranoid wife agreed under the stipulation that he never take the cards outside the house.

The following day, I was working while Seba was busy at the shredder. He came across another card, turned to me, and asked if he could keep it. After examining the card (it expired in 2007), I said “Sure.”

As he was filing it in his wallet, I recounted what his mother had told him: that he could never take them out of the house.

Seba: “But I have to take them out of the house.”

Me: “Huh? Why?”

Seba: “Well, I don’t think mommy wants me to leave them here when we move.”

About the drunken cyclist

I have been an occasional cycling tour guide in Europe for the past 20 years, visiting most of the wine regions of France. Through this "job" I developed a love for wine and the stories that often accompany the pulling of a cork. I live in Houston with my lovely wife and two wonderful sons.

I am sure yo could bribe him say “Mommy, I did exactly what you told me, I left those credit card on the shelf in my closet”, while your driving over the Mississippi River. That is excatly whay one of my kids would do without prompting. 🙂
