Saturday Reminders—3/16/19

Happy Saturday everyone! I am a bit shocked today since I have absolutely nothing going on today: no basketball (thank goodness), no baseball, no shuttling of the kids anywhere. My wife has been out of town all week, so that means cleaning the house, but that should only take seven hours or so. Before I tackle that task, here are a few reminders for you.

  1. I have begun the process of collecting samples for my Third Annual Largest Blind Tasting of American True Rosés! A “True Rosé “ is a wine that was always intended to be a rosé—some people call them “intentional rosés”, “direct press rosés”, or even “bespoke rosé.” In other words, these are not saignées (a by-product of red wine production when part of the juice of a red wine is bled off [“saignée” means “bled” in French] and made into a rosé)This year I will again host the event at my house for several Houston based wine writers and bloggers in early May. Please let me know if you have a wine that should be included or if you may be interested in attending (although there is limited space). Last year we tried 68 (!) True Rosés!
  2. I have started a bit of wine consulting here in Houston and I am looking to do a tasting that focusses on how wine ages. As such, I need a few current releases paired with the same wine that is 5-10 years old. Ideally, I would have a white or two and two or three reds (and willing to pay for them, of course, within reason). Please email me at jeff (at) thedrunkencyclist (dot) com if you have any thoughts.
  3. Last, on a personal note, my alma mater, Bowdoin College is in the championship game for Division III Women’s Basketball today—send them some good vibes!

That’s all I have today—have a great and safe Saturday!

About the drunken cyclist

I have been an occasional cycling tour guide in Europe for the past 20 years, visiting most of the wine regions of France. Through this "job" I developed a love for wine and the stories that often accompany the pulling of a cork. I live in Houston with my lovely wife and two wonderful sons.

I didn’t know you had a Maine connection as well as Houston. Let me know when you’re planning a wine tasting.
