Saturday Reminders—3/21/20

While I had planned to publish another list of wineries selling directly to the consumer during these surreal times, yesterday got away from me and I was not able to conduct the requisite research. Have no fear, I will be sure to get up another post early next week. Instead, I offer up a couple of reminders:

  1. I have begun to collect samples for my Fourth Annual World’s Largest Blind Tasting of American True Rosés. For those of you still not in-the-know, a  “True” Rosé is a wine that was always intended to be a rosé—some people call them “intentional rosés”, “direct press rosés”, or even “bespoke rosé.” In other words, these are not saignées (a by-product of red wine production when part of the juice of a red wine is bled off [“saignée” means “bled” in French] and made into a rosé)This year I will hopefully host the event at my house for several Houston based wine writers and bloggers in early May (while practicing social distancing). Please let me know if you have a wine that should be included or if you may be interested in attending (although there is limited space). Last year we tried 50 True Rosés!
  2. For now, my “career” as a Spin instructor is decidedly on hold. I was teaching a minimum of three times a week at our local YMCA, but that came to a rather abrupt halt last week. While I hope that means I will be able to get out on the road a bit more, I also realize that I will need a plan for those days that I can’t ride outside (when it’s 104° for example). So I was wondering if there were any folks out there that wanted to join me in a Peloton group? My wife has one of the machines and while not ideal, it is a good alternative. Let me know via email (jeff (at) thedrunkencyclist (dot) com) and I will set it up (with the help of my teenage son, natch).

That’s all I have today—have a great and safe Saturday!

About the drunken cyclist

I have been an occasional cycling tour guide in Europe for the past 20 years, visiting most of the wine regions of France. Through this "job" I developed a love for wine and the stories that often accompany the pulling of a cork. I live in Houston with my lovely wife and two wonderful sons.

Very interesting about the “true” rosés! We have embarked on a project to drink up our “cellar” since we have a lot of older bottles sitting around. Some have aged better than others.
