A couple of months ago, I started a new weekly theme: Sundays Are For Sebastian. Sebastian is my four year old and he says some of the funniest things–we have no idea where he gets his material since his mother and I are rather boring, serious people.
This week, our little Sebastian jumped off a playground apparatus and broke his arm. While that is never a “good” thing to experience as a parent, it has resulted in several moments that will grace this blog in the weeks to come.
While at the hospital….
Tammy (my wife): “OK Sebastian, they have to take a few X-Rays of your arm now.”
Sebastian (being very brave in the face of his broken arm, but still a bit scared): “What’s an Ecks Ray?”
Tammy: “It’s like a picture.”
The doctors proceeded to take several X-Rays.
With Sebastian smiling very broadly for each one.
Poor little guy. Hope is doing ok and that the August heat isn’t to miserable for him.

Tis the season for broken arms lately! My niece broke hers two weeks ago, and then my friend broke her hand yesterday! Speedy healing to Sebastian.

It would certainly go a lot faster if he had a visit from Auntie Laura and Uncle Nicolas!

What a charmer he is. That’s funny, but the pull-at-my-heartstrings picture makes it bittersweet.
Looks like it might have been harder for the parents to go through than for the child.

Tore me up inside, but he is a trooper.

My son was that age, exactly, when he snapped his elbow literally in half (it was grotesque) and ruined his violin-playing career (stretched the nerves so he lost feeling in his middle and ring fingers for a number of years). The picture of S in his cast hit too close to my already torn-up heart.
The good news is: the 4-year-olds recover so much more easily than we old-fogies do. My son barely remembers that trauma (I fainted!), and has a fully-functioning arm/hand/nerves. Regeneration is easy when you’re very young.

Lol. That is precious. I hope Sebastian is doing ok and his cast is decorated with signatures or at least a fun color. Poor mom and dad!

He got a bunch of signatures, but then they had to be removed since it was too tight–he was not happy about that!

Reblogged this on the drunken cyclist and commented:
I am out of town this week and thought it would be a good time to re-visit some of my favorite Sundays Are For Sebastian. This one comes from two years ago when our little boy broke his arm jumping off the Jungle gym at camp….
