Wine Trivia Wednesday–#80

Well, it is Wednesday again, and time for the Weekly Wine Quiz. Last week’s Quiz was comprised of  a little of the Sesame Street game “One of these things is not the like the other, one of these things just doesn’t belong.”

1. Which of the following does not belong?

a. Bual
b. Malvasia
c. Sercial
d. Verdelho

This was actually a trick question–they all belong (they are all varieties that are used in the production of Madiera).

2. Which of the following does not belong?

a. Avize
b. Bouzy
c. Chouilly
d. Dizy

D. Dizy. No trick question here. The first three are Grand Cru villages in Champagne, while Dizy is a Premier Cru.

3. Which of the following does not belong?

a. Brouilly
b. Côte de Brouilly
c. Chiroubles
d. Givry

D. Givry is a town in the Côte Challonaise while the other three are all in Beaujolais.

4. Which of the following does not belong?

a. Banyuls
b. Maury
c. Rivesaltes
d. Sauternes

D. Sauternes. The other three are all fortified wines–Sauternes is not.

Bonus Question: Name the film and the wine.

The film is Goldfinger and the wine is Dom Pérignon.20140319-090350.jpg

Last week’s quiz produced a couple of winners:  Anatoli of Talk-a-Vino and Martin of Enofylz Wine Blog both of whom got all the questions (and the bonus question) right! Honorable mention to Julian of VinoInLove and the Wandering Sheppard who missed just one question, but got the bonus. And last a shout out to Ruth Hall Chatlien who nailed the bonus as well! Congratulations to all!

About the drunken cyclist

I have been an occasional cycling tour guide in Europe for the past 20 years, visiting most of the wine regions of France. Through this "job" I developed a love for wine and the stories that often accompany the pulling of a cork. I live in Houston with my lovely wife and two wonderful sons.

I tried the bonus question with my Bond-loving other half. I even busted out my best Sean Connery impersonation. But his own prejudice about brown shoes and black trousers blinded him. Excellent bonus question distractors!

  5. Ok. Let’s play:

    1-d
    2-b
3-a (and you spelled Rheinhessen wrong…)
    4-d

And the bonus: Is a. My dad was still listening to the Beatles a lot when I first saw Goldfingers…so this stuck with me.

  6. Why do have Carmen Sandiego in my mind?

I need to read more of the Wine Atlas… I’m going for the perfect whiff here: d, c, a, b and the bonus question sounds like d. ( but b feels more blog appropriate)
