I have been meaning to write about this for some time, but I never really got around to it, but seeing it yesterday on Elaine Brown’s Hawk Wakawaka Wine Reviews blog yesterday provided enough impetus for me to finally post about it (by the way, if you are not a subscriber to Elaine’s blog, you are really missing the boat).
William Shatner has a wine show on Ora TV called Brown Bag Wine Tasting that is fantastic. The premise of the show is rather straightforward—he and his guest taste a wine blind and he asks the guest to describe the wine to him. The guests range from the modestly famous (Levar Burton) to the rather obscure (a butcher, a cheesemonger, and a pot dealer).
The shows are all great and I think Captain Kirk is wonderful. There is plenty to celebrate here—there is plenty for the wine geek to love, but it is far from pretentious so as not to alienate the neophyte. If you have not yet checked it out, you should! Each episode is under ten minutes long and each is unique—Shatner does a great job at putting the focus on the guest.
Quality wine programming like this should be supported….

Haven’t heard of the series or Ora TV. But I have heard of Shatner. In fact I have some of his “songs” on vinyl. Ever hear those?

I watched three and it was interesting but I’m not so sure I’m a fan of the “ok, you’re a mechanic so describe this wine like your tools” thing.
