Monthly Wine Writing Challenge #14–The Results

The results are inAs the name suggests, this was our 14th Monthly Wine Writing Challenge (unlike the Wine Bloggers Conference which incorporates the last two digits of the year into the name, so you have no idea how many there have been) and I can safely state the obvious and say that no two have been the same. This go around, with the theme of “Tradition” supplied by last month’s winner Duff’s Wine, there were eighteen entries. Well, actually, there were seventeen bloggers that were able to enter on time and one additional writer who submitted her entry a tad late. She claimed, however, that she pulled an all-nighter to get the post done, and thus I felt a bit sorry for her admired her grit and determination and allowed her article to be entered into this month’s Challenge.

”Why” you might be asking “do you continue to ramble on about this?”

That is a very good question, my faithful reader. Some of you know I used to be a high school teacher and are probably wondering whether I was this soft on my former students who would dare to so brazenly flout the rules as this particular scalawag has done.

Truth be told, I would likely have deducted some points from her paper for being late, but I would have otherwise accepted it. Since there is no real way to deduct points I guess I could have deducted some votes, but she still would have won anyway—as it was a bit of a landslide.

So without any further ado…

And-the-Winner-IsCheap Wine Curious: Family, Wine & Tradition: A New Generation of California Wine Makers

As the winner of this month’s challenge, Loie has the “honor” of choosing the topic for next month’s Challenge.

Congratulations to Loie, who just recently started contributing to the Challenge, but unlike other former winners who we rarely see anymore, I have a feeling that she will continue to churn out entries (whether by the deadline or not). Stay tuned for next month’s theme! WinnerMWWC

I have been an occasional cycling tour guide in Europe for the past 20 years, visiting most of the wine regions of France. Through this "job" I developed a love for wine and the stories that often accompany the pulling of a cork. I live in Houston with my lovely wife and two wonderful sons.

    Wow! So honored. Fortunately I had a huge multigenerational Italian family on my side. It was a delight meeting them and telling their story. Appreciate the encouragement from all the great writers who participate – admire all your work and wine wisdom. From you, I have learned so much about wine and myself. Is that the music cueing? What? I’m being signaled to get off the podium – sheesh – can’t a lady get any respect? I don’t win competitions ever and my one victorious moment I’m ushered off the stage like a pink Moscato in Napa. I’ll hurry along…I’d like to thank the MWWC academy, Dr. Kralik for not issuing me an “incomplete” on my paper and my loving husband who is getting accustomed to uncooked dinners, default childcare and writer’s spouse ennui on a monthly basis. Mwah! Mwah!

      Don’t get me started….before I go on, which disease are you referring to? I suffer from Punctualis Procrastinatium Deficit Disorder. There is no cure. I’m certain. Cheers! xoxo

        Hahaha! That’s the disorder that teachers often have the most difficulty with! Socially, some of us learn to indulge those who suffer from it, knowing that it’s chronic.

        There are others, like IBS, aka Itchy Bum Syndrome, i.e. when one stands in front of a group to speak, you move around and hate being trapped behind a lectern or table without a remote or pointer for the dreaded PowerPoint presentation…. I can vent on this, for hours, so don’t get me started 😛

        If only there were a cure. As for IBS….this is where I would feel confident in prescribing you a glass of wine pre and post presentation. One precaution: Don’t itch unless you excuse yourself, otherwise, no one will want to shake your hand. True story, this could happen to you! xoxo hahaah

        Bhwahaha! I think the issue is scratching, not itching 😛 … And as for your prescription, medication gladly accepted, notwithstanding the fact that IBS is also incurable!
