Just yesterday, my October article was published in two local magazines. This month, I wrote about a subject I swore I never would: pairing wine with Halloween candy. As I lay out in the article, there are several reasons that I have avoided writing such a missive, but there is an additional reason I did not include:
Almost every Halloween candy wine pairing article I have ever tried to read has actually been serious. The writers actually seem to believe what they wrote or, even worse, spent an afternoon with a bowl full of candy and a dozen or so wines and literally tried to find the best pairings.
As I hint in this month’s article, if anyone honestly sits down with a bunch of candy and a bottle or two of wine, they clearly have given up all hope and you should extract yourself from the situation as quickly as you possibly can.
Thus, I approached this month’s article with bits of sarcasm and (hopefully) humor and it should in no way be inferred that I condone a Halloween candy wine pairing party (unless there is really good wine, the eating of candy is not mandatory, I am invited, and no one comes as a clown).
Here is the two-page spread in the Fort Bend Focus:
I will add the screen shot from Spring Branch Plus as soon as it is back up, in the meantime, here is last month’s article:
