By the time most of you read this, I will be on a plane from Paris to Houston, heading home after three long weeks away. Normally, seeing my wife, son, and of course, dog, after such an extended time apart would be enough to have me looking forward to the plane ride back (I am not a big fan of air travel). But this time I have extra incentive.
This Friday and Saturday (October 17-18), La Fête de Champagne comes to Houston. It is a pretty big event and it only happens in H-Town (i.e., Houston) and some over-hyped city on the East Coast that claims to “never sleep”.
This year, I have been invited to attend two events: La Fête Tasting on Saturday afternoon and La Fête Dinner on Saturday evening. To put it mildly, I am pretty excited. As a Certified Champagne Snob™ (there is actually no such thing, but if there were, I would most certainly be one), just looking at the list of producers that are pouring at the various events induces a flood of drool that is on the verge of embarrassing.
So, I am going to do what I rarely (never?) do. I am going to cut and paste the press release for the event. There are still a few tickets available and these events are not to be missed. Yes, they are pricey but they appear to be worth it.
I will post about the event after I have recovered.
Here is the press release from the folks at La Fête de Champagne (all info is also available on the
Official Fête du Champagne website):
LA FÊTE DU CHAMPAGNE RETURNS TO HOUSTON TO CELEBRATE FRANCE’S ICONIC BUBBLES
The World’s Premier Celebration of Champagne Sparkles in Space City this October

“Houston has such an exciting food and wine scene – and we were thrilled to bring La Fête here in 2023,” says Johnnes. “My team at Pressoir can’t wait to come here again in furtherance of our mission to share the unique world of French wine and culture with American wine lovers. Our collaboration with Chef Aaron Bludorn and our exquisite participating producers is sure to result in unforgettable experiences for everyone involved.”
Pressoir has released its 2024 schedule of events, each of which is curated by Liem, Johnnes and the Pressoir team:

About the drunken cyclist
I have been an occasional cycling tour guide in Europe for the past 20 years, visiting most of the wine regions of France. Through this "job" I developed a love for wine and the stories that often accompany the pulling of a cork. I live in Houston with my lovely wife and two wonderful sons.
