My November Article is Out!

We are already a few days into November here in Houston, and it has still not started to cool off very much, but it looks like we might get some relief this week. I spent most of October in the South of France, where it was unseasonably cool and returned to Houston to 90 degree temperatures.

Ouch.

But now it is on to November which also means a new basketball season has begun. After a torturous handful of years, the head basketball coach at my son’s school (where I have been the JV coach for the past seven years)  finally left and was replaced by a new group who has brought passion, energy, and competence to a program sorely in need of it.

And of course tomorrow is the election. Ouch again. Surprisingly, down here in Texas, we have been inundated with political ads, random texts, and hundreds of emails and I am ready for all of it to stop. I just hope the country can get through this election and the aftermath and find ways to get along. When I went to vote the other day, I overheard another voter berate one of the volunteers. Really? Come on, we have to be better than that.

Moving on.

For this month’s article, I once again focus on easily my favorite holiday, Thanksgiving. As I enumerate in the piece, there are many reasons for my adoration, but there are also a few ways to improve it, in my humble opinion. The magazine also features the Uptown Dance Centre, a local dance troop with which I have a fun connection. For a few years now, I have helped them out with their annual scholarship fundraiser, a wine tasting event for around 80-100 people. It was nice to see them get some recognition.

About the drunken cyclist

I have been an occasional cycling tour guide in Europe for the past 20 years, visiting most of the wine regions of France. Through this "job" I developed a love for wine and the stories that often accompany the pulling of a cork. I live in Houston with my lovely wife and two wonderful sons.
