Navigating the College Selection Process: A Parent’s Guide

May was a crazy month for me. I conducted three rather large tastings (one of nine wines for 45 people in Dallas, another of four wines for nearly 100 people, and the third was my rosé tasting of over 50 wines), my son graduated from college, and I left for a three-week trip to Italy (where I still am). Nonetheless, I found the time to write another article for Spring Branch Plus Magazine, the local community publication that has a circulation of around 10,000 homes (I think).

This month, I tackled the college selection process. Not my own, of course, since that happened about a million years ago, but those of my two sons. While my older son has wrapped up his undergraduate years (and will be staying at the school to get a master’s degree in aerospace engineering–yeah, he’s literally going to be a rocket scientist), my younger child is just starting the process.

In the article, I lament a choice I made the first go around, determined not to relive that one with the younger….

About the drunken cyclist

I have been an occasional cycling tour guide in Europe for the past 20 years, visiting most of the wine regions of France. Through this "job" I developed a love for wine and the stories that often accompany the pulling of a cork. I live in Houston with my lovely wife and two wonderful sons.
