1980, how long ago was that? I can’t count that high, LOL. I would be concerned about how it was stored.

Yeah, it all depends on how it was stored. If any white wines other than Sauternes were able to age, it would be the White Burgundy from Montrachet, but I don’t know if they can sit for thirty years. Enjoy it though! I’m jealous of that you get to try a wine like that.

yeah, plenty, no worries. My latest attempt to saber the bottle of Russian sparkler end up with the broken glass and cut fingers… I know, I know – I should’ve stayed with an actual Champagne…

I would take the chance as well. If there is a long-lived white, this could be it. Either way, you will have a story to relate, as we will all be curious.

I’m in the same boat as wineandhistory on being able to advise (not). But, its interesting that we all have these bottles in the basement and we just can’t ever decide to open. I have a 1984 Rioja that I think is past it but then why bother? On second thought, I’m opening on the weekend. You have inspired me.

Seemed a bit flat at first and then viola, counterintuitively, it blossomed. Dirty and spicy. The way I love them. Food was an afterthought as in after the wine was gone, we decided on pizza.

There’s something to learn even if it’s dead. Wines older than myself worry me though, I can’t image how I taste these days.

As far as I know, it has been stored well. It came from a rather large lot of them, so it must have been in the hands of someone who knew what he/she had….

It should still be good. Someone gave me a case if 80s Napa chards with a couple Aussies in the mix. All were somewhat drinkable with different levels of oxidation. The eat ones – like the Montelena- fell off 5-10 minutes after the bottle opened. So savor right away.
