Several months ago, I started a new weekly theme: Sundays Are For Sebastian. Sebastian is my five year old and he says some of the funniest things–we have no idea where he gets his material since his mother and I are rather boring, serious people.
The other day on the drive home from school, for once Sebastian did not fall asleep instantly. This allowed for some interesting conversation with his mother:
Sebastian: “Do you know that Thanksgiving is soon?”
Tammy: “Yes, it is. Do you know why we have Thanksgiving?”
Seba: “Yep to eat turkeys.”
Tam: “Is that the only reason?”
Seb: “Yup, to kill and eat turkeys.”
Tam: “Well, that’s really not the reason. We have Thanksgiving to be thankful for all that we have. What are you thankful for?”
Seb: “What is ‘thankful’?”
Tam: “‘Thankful’ is when you are happy to have things in your life. So, what are you thankful for?”
Seb: “Mommy and Daddy.”
Tam: “That’s nice, what else?”
Seb: “Trees. And animals…”
[Pause]
Seb: “And other people.”
Tam: “Is that it? What about your brother?”
[Pause]
I have to admit, I felt that way about my brother too. Cheers!

That’s classic- sounds like something my youngest would say about his siblings- must be being the youngest.
