Monthly Wine Writing Challenge: Mystery–the Results!

The results are inBefore we get to the result of the week of voting, a quick recap of the past week. First, we had a record number of entries, with twenty-five! And what entries they were, spanning just about every topic imaginable. There were posts that included the Maltese Falcon, a couple efforts to make wine, a bark bottle, a murder mystery party, a staunch defense of merlot, and a Sherlockiian Conundrum.

We had Georgia on our mind, the birth of a new blog, a review of reviews, a post-it note, a couple romps through Burgundy, a visit from jolly old St. Nick, and a mystery born out of a garage.

There was the mystery of every bottle, a magical rock, breaking through drinking windows, a mysterious journey through several bubbles, a blind tasting that seems to have been hacked, a champagne thief, and knuckle-dragging Neanderthals.

In the end, there were three that were vying for the crown: a trip back to the emergence from the womb, being completely freaked out by Flavio’s spooky stories, and a, um, well,

An Erection.

Yes, it was an exciting group of entries!

When it came time to vote, the readers did not fool around either–there were just short of 200 votes cast, and over the course of the week, the lead changed hands numerous times. It was not clear until really the last couple of hours of voting who would win!And the Winner isSo without any further ado, this month’s winner, and who therefore becomes the host for next month’s challenge is none other than….

The SAHMmelier!

Congratulations!

I would also like to thank everyone who entered this month–it was truly a joy reading all the entries and realizing that there are so many talented people out there!

Please feel free to leave any comments about this month’s challenge: what went well, what needs work (e.g., what did you think of the MWWCBlog?) so that we can continue to make it better.

I am looking forward to next month and what the SAHMmelier might come up with as a theme. Until then, keep writing!

About the drunken cyclist

I have been an occasional cycling tour guide in Europe for the past 20 years, visiting most of the wine regions of France. Through this "job" I developed a love for wine and the stories that often accompany the pulling of a cork. I live in Houston with my lovely wife and two wonderful sons.

Well, I think when you are a SAHM, as I was, you really need your wine. 🙂 You have to relax and feel like an adult after a day of potty training and reading the same story 50 times. The payoff is when your kids are old enough to discuss your wine finds with you. Perhaps you are at a stage where you can’t even imagine this. My oldest can now legally join me for tastings, but he prefers beer.

I wish I would have known, as I would have entered your competition. I assume you were accepting humor and not just serious pieces, or was the point humorous experiences with wine?

      • Sure–anyone can enter and there are really no style limitations. The only real “rule” is that it has to be remotely associated with wine. There will be a new one next month, which should be announced soon!

Well done and congrats! Cool that we got so many entries and so many readers and votes. The organization leads one to believe that TDC is organized, diligent, and logical which of course comes through in his writing as well?

Congratulations. I re-read your blog and thoroughly enjoyed it. Unfortunately I could not comment because…yes…my blog has been hacked. It is finally revived, but it cost me a small fortune and some of my sense of humour. But I learnt some new lessons.
I look forward to the next theme. CHEERS!
