As we are getting into the holiday/fund-raising season, I thought I would re-blog an article I wrote a couple years ago. Since there are a few more people following my blog these days, I thought I would give this a go again. Be sure to let me know what you think, if you are so inclined.
As I mentioned in a previous post, I went to a fundraiser for my wife’s job the other night. The event was across the bridge in New Jersey, or to be more precise, ‘South Jersey’. Philadelphians (myself included) spend a fair amount of time making jokes about our neighbors to the east, particularly criticizing their sense of culture (yes, we are snobs), their fashion choices, and above all their driving (there is a strong correlation between a New Jersey license plate and a car horn being activated). Truth be told, however, I have not spent all that much time over there even though Delaware River (the state line) is only three miles away,
My wife has a rather tough job, so I just about always agree to go to these events so that I can support her (and avoid an additional evening of the boys jumping on my head)…

Awesome. That’s like the oenological version of me going to Outback Steakhouse. I too have had situations where the choice of beverage was $2 wine (guess which one), watery macrobrew, and sticking a letter opener through my palm. I have the scars to prove it.
Being from Chi Town and living in Ann Arbor, it’s like a time warp as soon as you get 15 minutes out of town…

It actually was a lot of fun, and everyone was very nice–but the time warp aspect was palpable.

I’m glad that you republished this blog. Had me in stitches! Oh, can I count the number of times that I have gone to an event and felt the same way about the wines served. Hmmmm….perhaps water may suffice!?

You are certainly right! Water would have been the better choice on many levels!
