Last week, Loie of Cheap Wine Curious won the Monthly Wine Writing Challenge #14 (#MWWC14) and just like all winners of the Challenge, her “reward” was to choose the theme for the following Challenge (in this case #MWWC15).
A few of us started the Monthly Wine Writing Challenge over a year ago with the desire to promote more creative wine writing. The thought was that we get caught up in tasting notes, winery visits, and the occasional food porn and we soon forget that part of the reason we put in all the hours that we do on these silly blogs is that we love to write!
After a bit of ribbing—Loie submitted her post, er, um, “right” at the last possible moment for the last Challenge, and I wondered on Twitter just how long it would take her to come up with a theme for this month. Well, she surprised me by coming up with this month’s theme over the weekend, a solid couple of days before the “deadline”. She initially wanted to use just that, “Deadline” as her theme, but luckily she came to her senses after fearing that she would incur the wrath of Anatoli of Talk-a-Vino and Oliver of The Winegetter who never share their disdain for a theme when it is not to their liking (I think it is safe to say that they would have objected to “Deadline”).
In the end, Loie thought better than raising the ire of two guys from old world Europe and opted for:
A quick recap of the rules:
The rules
- The Challenge is open to anybody and everybody. It helps if you have a blog, but that is certainly not a requirement (contact me if this is the case).
- Write a post based on this month’s theme: “Success”.
- The post should be at least tangentially related to wine (after all, it is the name of the challenge).
- The post should be more or less around 1000 words (I routinely violate this rule, so it is just there as a “guide”).
- Include the Monthly Wine Writing Challenge badge (above) that was designed by the very first winner, The Armchair Sommelier.
- Remember to vote!
- Once you post on your blog, please do at least two of the following and I will be sure to include a link here as well as on all subsequent posts about this month’s challenge:
- Include a link back to this post in your entry.
- Use the hashtag #MWWC15 somewhere in your post.
- Tweet, using the #MWWC15 hashtag and include a link back to your post.
- Send me an email: jeff(at)thedrunkencyclist(dot)com
- Include a link back to this post in your entry.

I can only second Oliver – I would much prefer “deadline” as offering a lot more possible angles. Success? Yeah, don’t know about that…
