Saturday Reminders–4/4/15

Hello all! I hope you are enjoying a glorious weekend. I am out in the Bay Area with my family, but my wife and older son are leaving tomorrow to return to Philadelphia, while Sebastian and I stay here for another week.

With the in-laws.

Pray for my soul.

I do have a several announcements, however.

finalist#1: Wine Blog Awards. Nominations for the Wine Blog Awards are now open. You should go over there and nominate your favorite blogs (other bloggers have given me some grief in the past for announcing this as they see it as soliciting nominations–in case you were wondering, that is exactly what I am doing!). Here is the LINK to nominate whatever Drunken Cyclist you like.

wine-stain1-3#2: Monthly Wine Writing Challenge 16 (#MWWC16): The deadline for #MWWC16 is fast approaching, as the deadline is Monday, 4/20. The theme this month is National Smoke Marijuana Day. Just kidding. If you do not know why that is funny, look up “4/20” or “4:20” and get educated (by the way, I have never smoked pot, but I do know the significance of 4/20). Actually, the theme is “Finish” and all of the details can be found HERE.

#3: Sip and Spin. I regularly teach Spinning classes in Philadelphia and once a month I host a Spinning class followed by a wine tasting. I am not sure about the theme yet, but the date is set: April 24th (Friday night). Send me an email (below) if you would like to join in!

IMG_3749#4: Wine Dinner at Fare. The last two wine dinners have been unbridled successes (although we would have liked to have a few more in attendance!). This time, the theme will be Loire Valley Varieties (Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc), which will be paired with five courses (including dessert), all for $75 (including tax and tip). If you are interested, leave me a message on my Facebook page (FB Page) or send me an email (below).

#5: Do me a favor. A couple of my friends are in some contests this month. First is Mary Cressler, a long-time blogger (author of Vindulge) who is trying to win a grill or something. Go HERE and click on the Black-and-White Photo of Mary and her husband and then vote for them (the Smoked Beef Brisket Nachos). The other is Naggiar Vineyards. They are in a contest for the best winery in the Sacremento area. Click HERE and go vote for them! The wine maker is Derek Irwin and his wife Danielle writes the winery’s blog (one of the best industry blogs out there, by the way). I just met them the other night and they are the best, so Vote For Naggiar!

#6: Happy Easter!

I think that is all for this weekend. I am off to get another ride in, then visit some more in-laws.

Happy. Happy. Joy. Joy.

About the drunken cyclist

I have been an occasional cycling tour guide in Europe for the past 20 years, visiting most of the wine regions of France. Through this "job" I developed a love for wine and the stories that often accompany the pulling of a cork. I live in Houston with my lovely wife and two wonderful sons.

I don’t get why anyone should give you any grief over soliciting nominations for the WBA: if someone feels like nominating your blog they will, if they do not, they will just go on with their lives, I guess… Weird.
I think the point instead is that (unless I am missing something) being nominated by third parties or having multiple nominations at this stage of the process is not going to increase your chances of success as the selection of the finalists will be made by the WBA panel of judges. Where readers support is going to make a difference is if you are picked among the finalists, as winners will be determined based on 50% popular vote and 50% judge vote.

Thanks for putting us in there and for your vote(s)! I voted for Mary and her husband and of course, I nominated my favorite Drunken Cyclist- I think for best drunken writing…there’s a category for that, right?

I’m sure you’ve heard this before, but I want to be a whiner. No, to be honest, I an a whiner.
