Last week, Frank of Frankly Wines won the Monthly Wine Writing Challenge #19 (#MWWC19) and just like all previous winners of the Challenge, his “reward” was to choose the theme for the following Challenge (in this case #MWWC20).
A few of us started the Monthly Wine Writing Challenge a couple of years ago with the desire to promote more creative wine writing. The thought was that we get caught up in tasting notes, winery visits, and the occasional food porn and we soon forget that part of the reason we put in all the hours that we do on these silly blogs is that we love to write!
Over the course of the Challenge, there has been a variety of themes, as one might expect. Even though the English language has thousands of possible choices for the theme, each winner has no doubt faced some angst in choosing the next month’s theme.
Each month, even though I have not chosen a theme for quite a while, I nonetheless play a bit of mental gymnastics and ponder the plethora of potential words dancing around in my head. I am not sure if this was the case with Frank this month, but he no doubt mulled over a veritable cornucopia of candidates before landing on this month’s theme.
I know what you are thinking: “enough already!”
So here you go: The theme for #MWWC20 is…
A quick recap of the rules:
The rules
- The Challenge is open to anybody and everybody. It helps if you have a blog, but that is certainly not a requirement (contact me if this is the case).
- Write a post based on this month’s theme: “Variety”.
- The post should be at least tangentially related to wine (after all, it is the name of the challenge).
- The post should be more or less around 1000 words (I routinely violate this rule, so it is just there as a “guide”).
- Include the Monthly Wine Writing Challenge badge (above) that was designed by the very first winner, The Armchair Sommelier.
- Remember to vote!
- Once you post on your blog, please do at least two of the following and I will be sure to include a link on all subsequent posts about this month’s challenge:
- Include a link back to this post in your entry.
- Use the hashtag #MWWC20 somewhere in your post.
- Tweet, using the #MWWC20 hashtag and include a link back to your post.
- Send me an email: jeff(at)thedrunkencyclist(dot)com
- Include a link back to this post in your entry.
The all important dates:
Deadline for submission: Monday, October 26th, 2015
Voting Begins: Tuesday, October 27th, 2015
Voting Ends: Monday, November 2nd, 2015

Ha! I know! I used to love when my mom would come home with one of those (but it was not too often, at all!).

We only got them on camping trips. Loved cutting them open and using the box as a bowl. 😀

Jelly. We were never allowed to do that for fear of the mess it would create….

Reblogged this on Frankly Wines and commented:
Motley Cru, Vine Inspiration, Suzi’s Grape Crush, Liqueur Plate, Irish Wino…. it’s time to get off the sidelines and get in the game!

LOVE LOVE LOVE this month’s theme! And now that I am home (temporarily!) from eating and drinking my way around Italy, I can sit down and write something for this month 🙂

Great theme and totally one of the reasons why I write my wine blog. In Italy there is a never ending amount of variety.

What an excellent idea this is. Some of my evil companions are champing at the bit to try this on for size.
