Last night was the latest wine dinner that I hosted at Fare Restaurant in the Fairmount neighborhood in Philadelphia. There was another good turnout despite the massive thunderstorms that raged through the city last night. In all we tasted through five wines from Greece that were paired with five authentic Greek dishes (the recipes were provided by Maria, the wife of one of the restaurant’s owners).
Here are a few photos from the evening:

The manager of the restaurant, George, who is also Greek, said you can’t eat Greek food without Ouzo. So we did with this welcoming plate of cheese, olives, and pickled tomatoes (which were made by Maria and were incredible).

The night’s menu.

Course One (Greek Dipping Sauces) with the 2014 Zacharias Ampelos Phos.

Course Two with 2013 Lyrarakis Kotsifali. It was tough to choose, but this Politiki salad might have been my favorite course.

Course Three (Soutzoukakia) with 2012 Palivou Vineyards Nemea Red.

Course Four (Fagri) with 2013 Mantinia Nasiakos.

Galatoboureko with Kourtaki Mavrodaphne.
I have done a dozen or so of these dinners at Fare now, and this was arguably the best food from top to bottom! We have already started talking about the next event, which will likely take place the first week in April….

I think people had a good time….

Ooooh, looks like fun. What is it about Greek food? You eat it for dinner one day and crave it the rest of the week.

Is that akin to how when you are done eating Chinese food you are hungrier than when you started?
