#MWWC33 Time to vote! (Well, not really)

Time to Enter Extended!

As many of you know, I have been out of town for the last ten days, arriving home shortly before midnight last night, making it nearly a full 24 hours awake. Nonetheless, I stayed up just a bit longer last night to search for entries for this month’s Monthly Wine Writing Challenge.

Well, there were not many.

In fact there were but four—and that included my own.

Needless to say, perhaps, that was the lowest output since we started this Challenge a few years ago. So instead of conducting the vote with that few entries, I decided to extend the deadline by a week.

I understand that people are busy and that this might just be an anomaly, but in case it isn’t, I thought I would tag a few people here who have been active in the past, to solicit their opinions as to why they did not participate this week (was it the theme?), and/or have not been around in a while (are they bored with the format?).

My goal with this Challenge, as I have stated every month, is to encourage writing in whatever form the author sees best, and to that end, I am open to modifying, altering, completely changing, or even abandoning this format altogether.

Thus, if you are a regular contributor, an infrequent one, or even if you have never entered, I welcome your comments. There are a lot of people out there that are a lot smarter than I that could help to improve this Challenge. Feel free to either leave a comment or contact me directly (jeff (at) thedrunkencyclist (dot) com).

Here are a few people I would love to hear from (these are people who have entered at least 25% of the Challenges–if you are not on this list, that does not mean I wouldn’t love to hear from you, but listing everyone did not seem all that efficient!). There are only 14 people on this list, but there have been a total of 125 different writers enter the Challenge and 447 total entries (just under 14 per month, on average, in case you were wondering—and for the real stats geeks, the standard deviation is 4.35, so this week is really an outlier):

The Remaining (new) Timeline:

Voting Begins: Tuesday, June 13th, 2017 (a week from today)

Voting Ends:  Monday, June 14th, 2017

Winner Announced:  Tuesday, June 15th, 2017

Please don’t be shy in offering feedback—all opinions are welcome!

About the drunken cyclist

I have been an occasional cycling tour guide in Europe for the past 20 years, visiting most of the wine regions of France. Through this "job" I developed a love for wine and the stories that often accompany the pulling of a cork. I live in Houston with my lovely wife and two wonderful sons.

Welcome back!! I submitted laaaaate last night, although it was–barely–before midnight, CA time and whilst I know that you live in Texas a great number of participants are in California and basically, I’m just reaching and babbling and need more coffee!

  3. Jeff, I had every intention of submitting a post for MWWC#33, but I entered the witness protection program. Wait, no I didn’t! Aw, nuts. Now I have to move again!

But seriously, the deadline snuck up on me while I was basking in the afterglow of (recovering from) BottleRock Napa 2017! I’ll redouble my efforts…thank you for the extension!

  4. Oh no! Was it the theme? Sorry, friends! Though I completely understand, considering I didn’t even submit anything for my own theme. In my defence, I’m leaving in less than two months for a year, so as you can imagine, my pre-departure list of things to do is quite long. As a result, I might be MIA for a bit.
