MWWC35 and the Best Laid Plans….

So this is how yesterday was supposed to go….

I woke up at my usual pre-6 a.m. hour, went down stairs and read the news for an hour or so, catching up on the latest attempts of our elected officials to pretend to be earning the salaries that we pay them. Then I checked the sports scores from the night before and spent a bit of time wondering if I were ready to abandon my Philadelphia allegiances and convert to being a full-time Texas sports fan.

I then wandered over to the kitchen to make breakfast: a turkey sausage and egg croissant sandwich, and watch about five minutes of “news” from the only cable news channel I can come close to watching these days. I soon became disgusted with even that channel, so I returned to my office to belt out my latest blog post. In this case, the entries for the latest Monthly Wine Writing Challenge.

Again, that was how my morning was supposed to go yesterday.

Instead…

I slept in past 7:00—I can’t remember the last time I have slept that late. Nor the last time I have used an alarm clock—I am almost always up before dawn.

Nonetheless, I tried to adhere to my proposed morning, but…

…we were out of eggs, out of turkey sausage, and out of croissants…

…the cable was not working…

…and the internet was down.

Thus, my morning yesterday was spent on the phone with the lovely people from Comcast, who make sure to say “Thank you soooo much for you patience” when they tell you that they will not be able to send anyone out to fix the problem until the following day, sometime between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.

I thought about going ahead with my post by using the WordPress App on my phone, but that proved to be more than cumbersome and (perhaps more to the point) there were only three entries to consider.

Now I know that I have harped on this before, and I know that this month’s theme is a bit challenging (to say the least), but I once again decided to delay the vote for at least another week.

So here is the revised timeline:

The all important dates:

Deadline for submission:  Monday, September 25th, 2017 October 2nd

Voting Begins: Tuesday, September 26th, 2017 October 3rd

Voting Ends:  Monday, October 2nd, 2017 October 9th

Winner Announced:  Tuesday, October 3rd, 2017 October 10th

Hopefully, that will provide a bit more time for those of us (including me) who have not yet tackled this month’s theme.

About the drunken cyclist

I have been an occasional cycling tour guide in Europe for the past 20 years, visiting most of the wine regions of France. Through this "job" I developed a love for wine and the stories that often accompany the pulling of a cork. I live in Houston with my lovely wife and two wonderful sons.
