Today is the Day!

So, I was supposed to be writing this post from the sunny city of Seville, Spain, but a funny thing happened right before we were supposed to get on the plane. We checked the weather report. Just hours before our scheduled flight, the forecast for Seville indicated rain every day that we were scheduled to be there. And not just “the chance of rain” but 89-100% chance of rain with 25mph winds thrown in, you know, just for grins.

So we bailed.

Instead, we loaded up the car and headed about four hours west, to Fredericksburg, Texas, the center of the Texas wine scene and a town we had never visited. More on that hopefully soon.

Not Spain.

Why do I bring all of this up?

Well, last night we were at a fabulous spot called Six Twists, a “bar” dedicated to champagne and sparkling wines. We spent most of the night talking to Bobby Humphries, one of the partners behind Six Twists and we discovered we had plenty in common. More on that soon as well.

Again, you ask, why do I bring this up?

My wife heading into Six Twists.

Well, one of the things we have in common is a fondness for Last Bottle Wines. While Six Twists has many fantastic champagnes on their list, one of the producers that figures prominently, Paul Dethune, Bobby discovered through Last Bottle Wines.

The 2012 Dethune (right) was fantastic.

And, as it happens, today is one of the biggest days of the year for Last Bottle Wines as their Spring Marathon kicks off today at 9:00 am PDT (noon on the East Coast, 11:00 in Houston).

If you have not checked out Last Bottle Wines yet, today is the day to give it a try as there will be hundreds of wines up on the site today, one at a time, all at rather substantial discounts. As I have mentioned countless times on this site, I have received a ton of wine from Last Bottle  over the last twelve years or so (it’s close to a thousand bottles at this point), and I cannot think of a single time that I was not completely satisfied with the purchase.

So go check it out! During the Marathon, all wines purchased will be shipped fro free (to the lower 48), with no minimums (usually, there is a required number of bottles to receive free shipping); all your purchases during the Marathon will be grouped and shipped together.

So get check it out and let me know what you buy!

Full disclosure: if you sign up with Last Bottle using one of the links here, I will receive some store credit and you will receive $10 off your first purchase.

About the drunken cyclist

I have been an occasional cycling tour guide in Europe for the past 20 years, visiting most of the wine regions of France. Through this "job" I developed a love for wine and the stories that often accompany the pulling of a cork. I live in Houston with my lovely wife and two wonderful sons.
