Well, I have been away from the blog for a bit. Baseball has started and both boys are playing this year, so just about every night we have a combination of practices, games, or trips to the emergency room (alright, there have not been any of the last, thankfully, but I like giving lists of three or more–my wife will now call and swear that I just jinxed us, but she is a medical doctor and loves watching Grey’s Anatomy which I find rather insufferable, so I will chose not to listen to her this one time). I have also started riding more seriously since I have a few races coming up and the waist line has turned to a rather large gooey kind of substance. So, unfortunately, my writing has suffered a bit. I hope to change that this week and get back to more frequent posts (no groaning!).
What better than the weekly wine quiz to get us going again? And this week I tried to include a few passions: Champagne, bike riding, and cars (OK, I really am not into cars, but growing up in Detroit, you are supposed to think they are the greatest thing–I see them as an evil necessity, but I digress).
Put the following in order from least to greatest in terms of relative pressure:
- Champagne Bottle
- Road Bike Tire
- Mountain Bike Tire
- Average Car Tire
Again, no prizes to be awarded other than knowing you’re the geekiest coolest kid on your block.
As for geeks, here was my first attempt to open a bottle of sparkling wine with champagne flute for your enjoyment:
I have since gotten much better: 1. point the bottle upwards and you won’t lose as much wine; and 2. strike the bottle a bit harder with the glass–I can usually get the job done in 3-5 blows.
Other Wine Quizzes:

It was an interesting learning experience for me trying to come up with the answer 🙂 I would suggest the correct order being 4, 3, 1 and 2 (average car, mountain bike, bottle of champagne and the road bike).
Also very interesting video – I would think that glass should break before the bottle, but I’ve proven me wrong 🙂
Cheers!

Correct! We have a winner! You also have to try the sabering thing at some point–a lot of fun.

I think I will have to – and record the video as well 🙂

Okay – this is a trick question. 🙂 There are too many variables with the bicycle tires, i.e. size of tires, weight of person riding, conditions, weather, etc. That being said, I’m going to go with car, champagne, mountain bike, road bike. I may be way off base.

Agreed! He is being tricksy. I would say, car, mountain bike, champagne, road bike.

Correct! Thanks for playing (and I’m not ‘tricksy’–as far as you know!).

Cat, great guess, but I swear I wasn’t trying to be tricky!

Champagne bottle, road bike, moutain bike, average car tire. Total SWAG!

So close. Glad to see you put the most important first (and you were supposed to go from least to most, but, well, you put Champagne first!).

I fear utter failure if I even venture a guess on the quiz, but have to say I totally loved the demo on saber technique! Saw this done first hand decades ago when I was in Kenya and the implement was pretty close to an actual battle saber of some sort. Have wanted to try it ever since but thought I needed to own a sword. Never dreamed it could be done with a champagne glass. Impressive! Inspiring! Must try!

Certainly try it! Much easier after the first bottle consumed, though!
