Sunday Night Photo–Best Laid Plans

I started this blog just about a year ago and I had planned a couple of different posts to ‘celebrate’ the occasion. I was going to review my posts and revisit some of the more popular posts and then come up with my top wines of the year. It was going to be grand and impressive.

Then life got in the way.

My wife became ill on Friday night and spent the whole day in bed on Saturday. Thus, I was on kid duty for a while: sleepover at our house, basketball game at 9:00, soccer game at 11:00, Shake Shake for lunch and then 4 year-old birthday party out in the boonies at 2:00. Got home at 5:30 to make dinner.

Today, I subbed for a Spinning class after which I realized that I was coming down with what my wife had. Ugh.

After a day on the couch, I decided I needed to infuse some energy into my day, I took the kids out for a bike ride and then came home to these. Guess which one I chose?

About the drunken cyclist

I have been an occasional cycling tour guide in Europe for the past 20 years, visiting most of the wine regions of France. Through this "job" I developed a love for wine and the stories that often accompany the pulling of a cork. I live in Houston with my lovely wife and two wonderful sons.

It’s a commonly known fact that champagne kills all cold and flu germs, right? Hope you feel better soon!

I’m sorry you don’t feel well, but the bendy straw made me laugh.

    • The straw makes my wife laugh as well, but more in a mocking “You’re a dufus” kind of way.

I sometimes use one in my big glass of water, to avoid wearing said water. The Sunday night before returning to work, after two weeks off, I pulled it out of my water and put it in my wine glass…and took a picture and put it on FB. I had to promise my sister I didn’t need an intervention at that point. I’m a big fan of the bendy straw.

  4. It still cracks me up every time you mention the spinning class. Somehow I envision in you spandex, and not in a favorable way…:D

It is not easy to put a “like” on this post… I like your writing, but not the fact that you and your wife got sick…

Undoubtedly, life gets int he way, in the least appropriate moment…

    Lily Bollinger would be proud.
“I only drink champagne when I’m happy, and when I’m sad.
Sometimes I drink it when I’m alone.
When I have company, I consider it obligatory.
I trifle with it if I am not hungry and drink it when I am.
Otherwise I never touch it – unless I’m thirsty.”
    — or sick. Get better!
