Several months ago, I started a new weekly theme: Sundays Are For Sebastian. Sebastian is my five-year-old and he says some of the funniest things–we have no idea where he gets his material since his mother and I are rather boring, serious people.
When I dropped Sebastian off at school the other day, he was a mess—he did not want me to leave. It was the start of a new school year and he was apprehensive (to say the least): clinging to my leg, avoiding any contact with friends or teachers, and plenty of tears.
I finally calmed him down.
Me: “Promise you will be a good boy?”
“Yes”, he sobbed.
“Promise to listen to your teacher?”
“I promise” he replied with more sobbing.
“Promise not to be homesick?”
“Yes” he stammered through the crying.
As I reached the door he shouted out: “Daddy?” [Tears welling up]
He came running up to me.
“What does ‘homesick’ mean?”

Poor sentimental little tyke.

Yeah, he tries to have a tough guy exterior, but inside he’s a softy (sounds like someone else I know).

Poor guy – I’m sure the first day went fine and he loves it now! (FYI – on your top header, you still say he is 4…)

It did and he does and thanks for the catch!

Those first days are just as hard (if not harder) on the parents. I hope you survived it.

It was hard ripping my leg away, but I know he is better off for it….

I have a three year old… boy do I know the concept. I am always worried that Beaumont will ask for wine when at school as he does at home… Little bastard seems to have a taste for vintage Champagne and great Burgs and Bordeaux! Love your blog!

Thanks for the comments Chef! Great food porn on your site, btw! Yeah, our five-year-old will come running when we have a flute of champagne and he has become quite the critic (and most of the time I agree with him!)…
