I am out in California for the Wine Bloggers Conference and I took a couple of days afterwards to mess around a bit.
As strange as it sounds these days, I have been without access to the internet for over 24 hours!, despite the claim by my hotel to the contrary.
So instead of going another whole day without posting, I am standing in a corner of my room where I get a tiny bit of 4G reception and writing this on my phone (so excuse the brevity and any errors).
My thumbs are already cramping up so here are a few photos from the last few days:

About the drunken cyclist
I have been an occasional cycling tour guide in Europe for the past 20 years, visiting most of the wine regions of France. Through this "job" I developed a love for wine and the stories that often accompany the pulling of a cork. I live in Houston with my lovely wife and two wonderful sons.
Wowo!! Lucky!!! What a blast!!

I know the experience of going without internet. A lot like withdrawal…. damned inconvenient… it seems before internet it was smoke signals and drums. Wasn’t it?

I sat there for the better part of an hour trying to get the dumb thing to work. I even asked the (what looked like a) 12 year-old at the front desk for help. I think I need a different kind of help!

A post with pictures AND captions all from your phone?? I’m impressed. Anxious for the 10-finger debrief when you get home . . .

I agree if you know going in that you will not have it, it’s great. But when you want/need it?

That is when you say to yourself “oh well, I guess I better have another glass of wine and relax instead.” 🙂 (But I do look forward to your wine conference recap.)

I feel your pain! On a recent trip abroad, I was without internet often. I learned a lot about myself…like that I’m really dependent upon it. Eventually I eased into minimal phone and internet access but it was difficult.
I’m so glad you posted. I enjoy your posts! It looks like you had a great time.

Melville does a really nice job. If you like Pinot, you should grab some Brewer-Clifton and some Clos Pepe–two of my all-time favorites….
