Last night we hosted our third wine dinner at our neighborhood restaurant, Fare, for 25 people, from all over the region. I chose the Loire Valley as the inspiration for the theme, and all the wines were varieties that are found in that wine region (well, except one, but more on that later). The evening seemed to be a smashing success (at least people said it was to me…) and I do have to say that what I was able to taste of the food was really good–I spent most of the night, though, running around, filling and re-filling glasses, talking to folks–not much time to eat (but I did find time to have a bit of wine…).
Here are a few photos from the event:

I wanted to get a Sparkling Vouvray for dessert, but interesting wines are outlawed in Pennsylvania, so I opted for a champagne (I knew it would be a terrible pairing, but people did not seem to mind as it was a Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs).
So there you have it–all that for $75 all-included! We have already set the date (May 27th) and the theme (sparkling wine) for the next dinner, so be sure to put it on your calendar!

This post leaves me hungry and thirsty. I have to find an opportunity to join you. 🙂

That would be great! I would have to sneak in a few personal bottles from my cellar as a super-secret stash!

How was the Honig Sauv Blanc (or are its tasting notes included in the “more later”)? We have it in local shops but I haven’t tried it yet.

It’s OK. Not as tart and a little rounder than your average SB, but some bang for the buck here. Let me know if you try it….

I cracked up at the PA line in the last photo. And preparing to be equally unenthused about the drinks (and drinking laws) when I return in a few weeks.

The over/under on how many times I suggest we go to the grocery store to get some beer before I remember that this is not going to happen is set at 1.5.

And the fact that you can’t buy beer and wine in the same place is completely ridiculous.

It was a bit of a collaborative effort–I choose the wine to pair with the menu. Open to the public….
