Last night was the latest wine dinner that I hosted at Fare Restaurant in the Fairmount section of Philadelphia and by all accounts, it was likely the best thus far. Five wines from the Lodi, California appellation (and one from Amador County) were paired with five imaginative courses prepared by Jonathan Alvaredo.
The next dinner is already scheduled for February 24th and the focus will be on Greek wines and cuisine.
Here are a few photos from last night:
Jillian Johnson’s fantastic Rosé of Cinsault, from the 135 year old Bechthold Vineyard.
2013 McCay Cellars Abba Vineyard Grenache and the 2012 Bokisch Vineyards Tempranillo both paired swimmingly with the Braised Pork Flatbread.
Sue Tipton’s 2014 Acquiesce Grenache Blanc chilling, waiting for the halibut.
Ryan Sherman is one of my favorite Lodi winemakers and the 2012 Fields Family Wines Old Vine Zinfandel is a perfect example why. A fantastic match for the Braised Short Ribs.
Stuart Spencer’s 2012 St. Amant Vintage Port was a hit by itself, but when paired with the Almond Ice Cream, it surpassed even my lofty expectations.
By all accounts, the evening was a success, many in attendance claiming this was the best of the seven events so far….
Again, the next event will be on February 24th! Think Greek! Let me know if you are interested….
