I am finally back in Houston for more than a few days, which is good, since I am pretty exhausted. After a week in Italy and a few days in the Finger Lakes, I was worried that my boys and my puppy would not recognize me. Well, at least one of them did, so I was happy. Today, I am going to try to get outside before it gets too hot to go for a ride around the Bayou City. There is a dearth of even decent riding here, but you do what you can. I will be recording today’s stage of the Tour de France, which should be epic, and which I will record (so don’t tell me what happens!). Then I am taking our boys to our first Astros baseball game this afternoon. I bought the tickets on StubHub. Can you say “rip-off”? But I had little choice since I promised them a game this summer and by the time I get back from France in mid-August, they will be heading back to school.
Before I head out for my glorious ride, I have two reminders for you:
- I am going to return to my former summer “job” as I will be leading a couple of bike trips in France again in a couple of weeks. The two trips: The Brittany Coast (July 29-August 4) and Northern Burgundy (August 5-11). I have arranged for a 10% discount for any of my readers who might want to come along. The riding is not difficult and I firmly believe there is no better way to see France. While it is certainly a bit late to sign up (and find a flight), there is still room on both trips if you might be interested. Send me an email (jeff (at) thedrunkencyclist (dot) com) if you would like more details.
- I am gearing up for my next “big” tasting. Although it will certainly pale in comparison, I will be tasting a few dozen Pinot Noirs shortly after I get back. They fall into two categories: Entry Level Pinot ($30 and under) and A Step Up (Pinot over $30 and under $50). If you have wine(s) that you would like to submit, or you would like to participate in the tasting, please drop me an email: jeff(at)thedrunkencyclist(dot)com.

With sunsets like this, you should want to visit Burgundy, too.
Have a Safe Saturday!
Most importantly: did your wife recognize you😂
