Today marks the last day of my first press trip in nearly two years as I end my nearly week-long stay in Walla Walla, Washington. There will be much more about the trip to come! As I usually do when on the road, I revisit a Sundays Are For Sebastian. This one comes from five and a half years ago when Seba was seven.
Sebastian is my seven-year old and he says some of the funniest things–we have no idea where he gets his material since his mother and I are rather boring, serious people. This one comes from a while ago, shortly after Sebastian learned to read….
I was watching a basketball game one Saturday afternoon, and I opened a bottle of wine after it was clear the game was over.
Nathan, surprisingly, wanted to try the wine. Having watched me, undoubtedly, he wanted to smell it first.
“That’s my boy!” I thought.
I told him to first swirl the wine a bit to get some air into it, then take a big, long sniff, take his time, and concentrate. After a bit of time, I asked him what it smelled like.
Right before he spoke Sebastian (who was not smelling the wine) blurted out:
“Wine?!?”
I think my tasting notes just became a lot easier….
