A Sad Day

For the past however many years, on Monday I publish tasting notes of wines that we have consumed from our own cellar. Today, however, it seems irrelevant. My heart and thoughts are preoccupied with what happened over the weekend here in Texas.

The most recent information states that at least 82 people have died in the tragic flooding west of Austin, many of them children who were attending summer camp along the Guadalupe River. As a parent and former staff member of many summer camps, I still can only imagine what those affected are experiencing right now.

Here is an article in USA Today that lists several ways for people to help in the recovery efforts:

About the drunken cyclist

I have been an occasional cycling tour guide in Europe for the past 20 years, visiting most of the wine regions of France. Through this "job" I developed a love for wine and the stories that often accompany the pulling of a cork. I live in Houston with my lovely wife and two wonderful sons.
