Wine Review Tuesday: A New Gig?

A little while ago, I joined another website, The Pennsylvania Vine Company as a part time contributor, which was a very good decision for me. They are a good group and we certainly have pulled a few corks together. If you have not been over there yet, you should go and check it out, particularly if you live in Pennsylvania (or one of the neighboring states that we Philadelphians eschew).

Well, I recently started writing for another website, examiner.com. I am not all that familiar with the site, but it does seem like that they do a bit of everything. I was hired (yes “hired”: I theoretically will be getting paid for my articles) as the “Philadelphia area wine pairing expert” or something along those lines.  Now I am a little nervous about the word “expert” anywhere close to my name since the only things I am particularly good at is doing square roots in my head and getting technical fouls in basketball.

Nonetheless, they just published my first article over there. While I need to work on making the piece more visually appealing, I am rather excited since it is a little different style of writing, which theoretically will be good for me.

So if you get a chance, check it out by clicking on the link below and be sure to come back here and let me know what you think.

Pairing burgers and wine: The three R’s

About the drunken cyclist

I have been an occasional cycling tour guide in Europe for the past 20 years, visiting most of the wine regions of France. Through this "job" I developed a love for wine and the stories that often accompany the pulling of a cork. I live in Houston with my lovely wife and two wonderful sons.

enjoyed your bit; didn’t enjoy the ads and particularly “racy” photos at the end of the page.

Good choice going into summer. Great choice on focusing on the Rs of Zinfandel with three different price points. Coincidentally, the latest Wine Spectator has values from California, including zins.

PS: Sometimes I reduce zin, and then add it to the hamburger.

Great article. Clear and absent of winobabble. Love the Ridge with anything grilled and sloppy.

Nice post Jeff but I agree with Heidi Siegel that there are way too many ads on that page. One ad even start playing a video that I had to pause while reading your post.

  8. I wish you had posted that two weeks ago when I was looking for pairing suggestions for burgers. But then again, I would not have liked your suggestions…so, I guess you are absolved. 🙂 Regarding Examiner: Good job! I use Adblocker, so I had no problems with the ads. The design is a bit too tabloid-y for my taste…

  9. Great job! I’ve never thought about pairing Zins with burgers, but it’s getting to be that season, so I will have to try it.
