Well, it is Wednesday again, and time for the Weekly Wine Quiz. Last week’s Quiz was comprised of a few general wine knowledge questions, which we need to address first.
a. Apricot b. Cat Pee c. Green Apple d. Pineapple
a. Assyrtiko b. Debina c. Lagorthi d. Robola
a. Alabama b. California c. Missouri d. Pennsylvania
a. Extreme Pruning b. Filtration c. Racking d. Addition of Sulfur
This is none other than Rudolf Steiner, who was the “founder” of biodynamics. According to one winemaker that I respect, he was also “bat-shit crazy.”
We had quite a few winners last week: Anatoli of Talk-a-Vino (again!) Linda of From Vinho Verde to Barolo with Love, Hannah of Next Stop TBD (another Ann Arbor Blogger–I think that is the main industry in my former home), SweetTempranillo, and Julian of VinoInLove. Anatoli, Julian, and The Food and Wine Hedonist (he does not like it when I use his real name, but he is also in Ann Arbor, and those people are “special”) got the bonus question right! Congratulations!
On to this week’s quiz: a hodgepodge of wine trivia, a veritable cornucopia of knowledge:
1. Which of the following does not belong, and why?
a. Aragonez b. Baboso Negro c. Cencibel d. De Por Aca
2. Which of the following varieties is not blended with other varieties?
a. Cabernet Sauvignon b. Merlot c. Pinot Noir d. Syrah e. None of the above
3. Where does Gruet make its American sparkling wines?
a. Arizona b. Colorado c. New Mexico d. Texas
4. Dry Creek Valley is most known for what variety?
a. Cabernet Sauvignon b. Merlot c. Pinot Noir d. Zinfandel
Bonus Question (This is a tough one): Name the wine, the movie, and the owner of those hairy legs.
Good luck! Answers next week!

What a shock to see a picture of Rudolph Steiner when I opened my WordPress Reader this morning! I studied much of his work in the past, and am in fact working on a spiritual (fictional) novel that incorporates some of his ideas – specifically Anthroposophy! I don’t doubt there are a lot of people who think he was crazy, but the man was quite brilliant.

He certainly had some interesting ideas, but also quite a few that were down right whacko.

1. b, Baboso Negro – the rest are synonyms of Tempranillo (never heard of De Por Aca before)
2. c, Pinot Noir is very seldom, if never blended with the other grapes
3. c, New Mexico
4. d, Zinfandel
Bonus: The only guess I can go with is that this is one of the James Bond movies, and then it will have be a DP or Bollinger Champagne.

That looks like James Bond aka Sean Connery (I’ll take A Petit Dejurner for $200), Thunderball, and that is Paul Roger.
