Sabering with Household Items: The Original

I am out on the road with my two boys in tow, gradually heading down to our new home in Houston, Texas. I had originally planned to keep publishing new content, but that has proved to be next to impossible while trying to keep the boys alive and entertained.

Of course, the original plan was to have several articles already written at this point, having them all queued up and ready to go, but you can surmise how well that plan played out.

Instead, as my boys get their last few hours of blissful sleep before I rouse them from their slumber to cart them off to Appomattox Courthouse, I thought I would share my original sabering video. I shot this clip shortly after returning from the International Pinot Noir Celebration (IPNC) in 2010, where I had seen the technique of sabering a bottle of sparkling wine with a champagne flute.

Eager to show my wife (and dear friend Laura who also appears briefly in the video) my new-found level of drunken stupidity, we headed out into the back “yard” with an Ikea champagne flute and a bottle of Argyle Brut….

About the drunken cyclist

I have been an occasional cycling tour guide in Europe for the past 20 years, visiting most of the wine regions of France. Through this "job" I developed a love for wine and the stories that often accompany the pulling of a cork. I live in Houston with my lovely wife and two wonderful sons.

  2. I’m so glad you shared this again, that was great! Your technique has improved since then however I’m not sure the various implements you’ve used has… 😉

I had never seen this, so this is beyond funny and awesome. You are so darn pleased with your success. Too bad this was before you started using captions, as I am sure you could have come up with some great comments about how you kept showing your butt in those black shorts. LOL
