Saturday Reminders (and Hurricane Harvey Update)—9/2/17

As I have mentioned here before, our immediate area, including our neighborhood, was not overly affected by Harvey. Over the course of the last few days, I have been able to get out on my bike a bit and have ridden around in several areas in northwest Houston and things are really drying out. The clean-up and recovery, however, will take some time, but the people of this town and state have really been coming together to help each other. I have to say, seeing that was perhaps the most remarkable aspect of the storm.

Thank you again for all of your comments, texts, calls, and direct messages during the storm which lasted five days.

Today, I just have a couple of reminders for you:

  • I have received many requests over the last few days about information regarding charities that are providing assistance to those affected by Hurricane Harvey. While there are many worthy outlets, I have set up a donation page with Texas Children’s Hospital to help the families with extremely sick children whose homes have been severely damaged by the storm. 100% of the donations go directly to the families (full disclosure: my wife is the Director of the Palliative Care team at the hospital). LINK.
  • The latest Monthly Wine Writing Challenge is up and running. All of the information can be found HERE

Have a Safe Saturday!

About the drunken cyclist

I have been an occasional cycling tour guide in Europe for the past 20 years, visiting most of the wine regions of France. Through this "job" I developed a love for wine and the stories that often accompany the pulling of a cork. I live in Houston with my lovely wife and two wonderful sons.

1 Response to Saturday Reminders (and Hurricane Harvey Update)—9/2/17

  1. Thank you for sharing, glad to hear that you were not badly effected personally! My husband and I are headed to the animal shelters here in Seattle to adopt a rescue pet from Harvey next week. Hundreds of them have arrived in our city recently that had to be displaced to make room for animals as there they are being found and rescued.
