Over the weekend, I found out that I was fortunate enough to win the latest Monthly Wine Writing Challenge (#MWWC5) that was hosted by Confessions of a Wine Geek. A few of us started the Monthly Wine Writing Challenge this past summer with the desire to promote more creative wine writing. The thought was that we get caught up in tasting notes, winery visits, and the occasional food porn and we soon forget that part of the reason we put in all the hours that we do on these silly blogs is that we love to write!
Part of the Challenge is that the previous month’s winner gets to chose the topic for the following month. After considerable internal debate, and at least three heated conversations with my wife (OK, there was only one such conversation, and it was in no way heated–we were drinking a very low alcohol Beaujolais at the time–but I was trying to sound dramatic), I have decided that the theme for #MWWC6 is:
We only had eight submissions last month, so I am hoping for an increased turnout this month! Many of you who have submitted in the past are obligated to get back on the keyboard! (You know who you are, and I am not above a public shaming to get you to participate!) (That was a three exclamation point paragraph in case you forgot to count.)
The rules
- Write a post based on this month’s theme: “Mystery”.
- The post should be at least tangentially related to wine (after all, it is the name of the challenge!).
- The post should be more or less around 1000 words (I routinely violate this rule, so it is just there as a “guide”).
- Include the Monthly Wine Writing Challenge badge that was designed by the very first winner, The Armchair Sommelier.
- Once you post on your blog, link back to this post (or somehow notify me), and I will be sure to include a link here as well as on all subsequent posts about this month’s challenge.
- It would be great if you tweet a link using the hashtag #MWWC6.
- Remember to vote!
The all important dates:
Deadline for submission: Monday, January 13th, 2014
Voting Begins: Tuesday, January 14th, 2014
Voting Ends: Monday, January 20th, 2014
Winner Announced: Tuesday, January 21st, 2014

Thanks Stefano, but the first time I hosted, I did not “earn” it by any means! You going to submit this time around?!?

What do you mean you did not earn it?!? You came up with the whole idea and concept! This makes you the putative father of the challenge! And mind you, I did not say “win”, I said “host”! 😉 This time around I might chip in as I think I feel inspired by the theme… I will do my best to come up with something! 🙂

Believe it or not, but few of MWWCs ago, I was hoping someone will chose the theme “Mystery” (sure, you got me – I was hoping to win myself and then this was the theme I would suggest). I like the theme – this might actually inspire me to write something again : )

OK, I’ve really gotta jump back into this game… This time I’m going to go with my strengths – humor and the ability to weave in one picture of Lindsay Lohan in the post…

I admit I was a little miffed that my post with a video of a monkey eating his own poop wasn’t even put on the voting list.
Youre not going to be that discerning, right?
